Kiloton (kt)
A unit of nuclear yield equal to 1,000 tons of TNT equivalent (4.184 × 10¹² joules).
A kiloton is the standard unit for tactical-yield nuclear weapons. The Hiroshima bomb was about 15 kilotons; modern artillery-fired nuclear shells (now retired) were sub-kiloton.
